The Urban Land Institute, or ULI, is a non-profit organization with offices in Washington, D.C. and London. It was founded in 1936 and currently has over 28,000 members. More than 20% of the members work in government, academia, or public-private partnerships. Most of the rest are involved in the real estate and urban development industries. Its stated mission is "to provide responsible leadership in the use of land to enhance the total environment."
The organization makes several awards annually, including the ULI Awards for Excellence, the Gerald D. Hines Urban Design Student Competition, the J. C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development, and the ULI-Kenneth M. Good Graduate Student Fellowship.
